highlighting president obama's accomplishments. >> with 29 months in a row of private sector job growth, president obama is moving america forward, not back. >> he said he'd end the war in iraq and he has. >>reporter: many were critical of republican rival mitt romney, including the first latino keynote dnc speaker, san antonio mayor julian castro. >> governor romney has undergone an extreme makeover. and it ain't pretty. so here's what we're going to say to mitt romney in november, we're gonna say no. >>reporter: but tonight wrapped up with a positive speech from first lady michelle obama. the president and his two daughters watched the convention from the white house as the first lady made a plea to undecided voters.

>> barack knows the american dream because he's lived it and he wants everyone in this country, everyone to have the same opportunity no matter who we are or where we're from or what we look like or who we love. >>reporter: tonight the most popular ex-president will take center stage and party leaders here are hoping bill clinton will fire up the crowd and push voters to reelect obama. live in charlotte, i'm sandra endo, back to you. let's talk about what's going on right now because we do have just a few showers mainly back off towards the west in western maryland. there is one lone shower trying to pop up around harford county just to the north of bel aire. garrettsville getting some sprinkles in across the area, nothing heavy whatsoever. still a few sprinkles around towson, and, again, the heaviest stuff if you're traveling towards western maryland, we're seeing it

toward pahpah. cumberland had wet weather earlier this morning, they're drying out. glenn elle 73 degrees this morning with dewpoint at 69. so we're still feeling the humid that will continue through this morning and also this afternoon with churchville coming in at 75 degrees right now. our last stop is morrisville with the temperature at 73 and dewpoint of 73, so a little bit of patchy fog around that area. here's the forecast as we go through time here, we'll start you out this morning around 10:00, 11:00, 79 degrees by luch. 85 with some showers and storms possible as we head into 3:00 with that high temperature at 88 degrees. let's get a check now of the abc 2 time saver traffic with mike massco. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. good morning, everybody. it's a pretty easy commute thus far. we do have a disabled vehicle on 95 at nakomis avenue. we do see the speed sensors coming down as you approach the fort mchenry tunnel. this is at perryman and old philadelphia road. these are some of our speed coming down, starting to see some yellows on the screen. that's an indication of around

a 30 mile per hour commute. harford tunnel looks good. that's the best approach to baltimore city. as we go outside, how about it? looking pretty good. we'll show you drive times and they look like this, pretty easy commute, 695 at harford road, that's looking really good as well across the area. and, again, 83 southbound from maryland/pennsylvania line to 695, that's a 22-minute ride and 695 outer loop from 795 to 95, that should take you 11 minutes. megan. the baltimore orioles are in first place in the a.l. east and it's september. after all those years, you've probably lost hope, but now it can be restored. we have not seen this since 1997. charley is live down at camden yards. and, charley, those o's tickets have never been so hard to come by until now, right? >>reporter: you know, megan, when you talk about major league baseball, the season is long, it's 162 games and no sport is based more on numbers than baseball. and we're not going to bore you with those numbers, the inside stuff.

we're going to talk to you about ticket prices this morning. i just did a check here on my smart phone, the stubhub prices, standing-room-only tickets at camden yards for tomorrow's game with the yankees going for about $40. and you start getting into some of ese other prices, field level, some of the other outfield box seats, $200, $300, we got one on here for $800 and another for $1,000 for people wanting to come to the game tomorrow, it's sold out for the first game of a four-game series with the new york yankees, but one thing is for sure, baseball has changed here in baltimore and it is certainly cool once again. it's football season. we still got baseball to be played here, though, in charm city. the o's, they return for a four- game series tomorrow with the yankees after wrapping up a road trip that included a series win in new york over the yankees. they won friday, they won sunday and they're currently shutting out the toronto blue jays right now, 4-0 win on labor day, 12-0 win last night. it's been a big, big series right now and a lot going on for the orioles and the baseball team, and for the city

itself. this is something we haven't seen in a number of years, more than a decade, baseball is certainly back. >> you have the baltimore orioles play the yankees and we have our baltimore ravens playing almost at the same time, so we're going to show the nation ploor is a fantastic sports city. >>reporter: it is indeed a great sports city, and tomorrow night prior to the game with the yankees, that first game of a four-game series. we're going to be unveiling cal ripken, jr's statue just over here in the memorial park. it's going to be on the anniversary of when he broke lou gehrig's consecutive game streak, september 6th, 1995 and when he set that mark, cal ripken played more than 2,600 consecutive games before taking a break. he retired later in that same season. he's a hall of famer now. tomorrow he'll be forever remembered here at camden yards with a statue going up in memorial gardens. megan. >> charley, thanks. a reminder, we want to see your orioles pride. send us your best pictures of you in your o's gear. if you are at the game, we

gary spent the last three months raising and caring for them, but one of the puppies is is sick and needs a vet right away. gary has put up signs all over the neighborhood, hoping someone will return his puppies. >> i've had several people in the neighborhood yell out their windows at me. i have to explain to them why i'm standing in the middle of the street, listening to things. when you explain what you're doing, they all understand, and say, well, i wish you the best and wish them the worst. >>reporter: gary is offering a $500 reward for anyone who will bring those puppies back home. he tells us that he and his wife are sick over it. >> i can imagine. maybe that reward will help. >>reporter: maybe. >> abc 2 news' linda stow reporting. thanks, linda. the coast guard has called off a search for a missing 27- year-old man. jason wayman and his girlfriend. they fell overboard from their sailboat about two miles off of bayside beach. this happened on labor day. she was able to be rescued, his body has not been found. they are suspending that

search. two fires at a denny's in harford county now a $10,000 reward being offered for any information leading to an arrest. deputy state fire marshals are trying to find a person of interest seen on this surveillance video at the time of both those fires. the fires were set in the men's bathroom, but the second one spread, causing about half a million dollars worth of damage. you've probably been there before, the day after a ball game, you head back to work and you have no voice. well, some of you, you know you're ready to yell, cheer on the o's or maybe you're getting ready for the ravens game, but doctors do have a warning this morning. they say be loud, but -- be proud, but not too loud. parents, you know you'll do anything to protect your child, but what happens when your child has to help you? would your child know what to do in the case of an emergency? we'll have the story of a young hero. flooded roads, flooded home businesses in shambles. just ahead, we'll show you some unexpected victims from hurricane isaac. and we have a few spotty

to that story. the family dodged it as best they could. fortunately they made it to the other side. take a look at this. you're going to have to look close, but some unexpected victims of hurricane isaac, check it out, cows stranded -- see it? on the front porch. it's because all of the high waters. many of the areas, they basically in louisiana, particularly the southern parts, they were flooded and only accessible by air boats. so the governor's office says that at least 13,000 homes damaged during that storm, some 100,000 people along the gulf coast still have no power this morning. but you can see those cattle trying to basically reach a safe place. i'm glad they're safe this morning, but it's tough to see. >> a good thing to see out of isaac was that the pets were allowed to come this time. that made me feel good. >> that was such a ugh part in hurricane katrina. >> exactly. so isaac still bringing tropical conditions to our area, very humid this morning. that will continue and also we'll have a chance for some more scattered showers and storms this afternoon.

now, we can look off towards the west there. we see a line of showers trying to push in, not so much, really spotty in nature. what we're really dealing with this morning, lots of cloud cover out there, a little bit of patchy fog in some areas this morning, but that will slowly but surely begin to burn off. and we are looking at the wind direction, very important for this morning because that's why temperatures are well above average, along with that cloud cover because these winds are out of the southwest. that's a warming wind, and that will continue as we head throughout your day. so you hear me talking about very tropical. well, we do have that very tropical pattern still in place. it will continue to be in place even as we head through tomorrow. as we look at the tropics, we are talking about tropical storm leslie once again. not moving very much. we can see it here. we can see the center of the storm, looking pretty healthy. we have lots of convection going on there, lots of thunderstorms near the center, but also we're dealing with a little bit of sheer, so some blowing off of the storm. so that's not good for a storm, so that's definitely some good news, especially for bermuda because that's where it's going to go.

we see the showers and thunderstorms as we head throughout the day. by 2:00, make sure you do have that rain gear, you will definitely need it. things looking much better as we head into thursday, and especially friday. here's what we have as we head through your afternoon time frame, around 88 degrees, that's what i'm going with as a high temperature. here's the seven-day forecast, we dry out, much better as we head into friday. let's get a check now of the abc 2 time saver traffic with mike massco. good morning. >>reporter: good morning, lynette. good morning, everybody. we do have a wreck to bring to your attention near emberton road right now, right near singer road. we're starting to see the speed sensors coming down due to that incident. we're going to send it down towards the south, this would be right along 32 at 198, so we're starting to see some congestion picking up this morning. and then up towards aberdeen, we're getting reports that police and fire on the scene of an accident right between perryman road and also old philadelphia road. just be aware of that if you're in the aberdeen area. outside we go, let's take a look at 83 at shon road, normal

volume picking up at this hour. so far our beltway looking good, inner and outer loop. take a look at some of those drive times this morning, 695 outer loop from 95 to 83, that's an 11-minute commute. megan. the nfl season kicks off tonight with the new york giants hosting the cowboys. and with the league looking -- locked in a labor dispute with the referees unit, replacement referees from the colleges and high school ranks, they'll be used to officiate the games. former new york giants running back tiki barber says replacements, they face such big challenges in such a big league. >> the speed of the game is so much faster and also the pace of the game is so much faster, meaning things are happening faster, not just the play on the field. and it's easy to get confused or caught up in the moment as a player. imagine what it's like as a referee who hasn't been on this stage before. >> well, tonight's game is being played on a wednesday, so it won't interfere with president obama's speech to the democratic national convention

on thursday. this would be the first nfl game played on a wednesday since september 22nd, 1948. there's plenty of excitement as the first place, the yankees take on the orioles at camden yards. the stadium will be packed with many enthusiastic fans. listen to this, it's apparently okay to cheer for your team, but you have to do it carefully because you could harm your voice. >> a single yell will either produce a hemorrhage that will go away or a polyp or heernlgic polyp that may not go away unless being surgically removed. >> what can you do to save them? it's recommended that you keep quiet, keep the cords, give them a rest, drink a lot of water and basically if you have to cheer, you can always do a little warmup before the game. a 5-year-old girl, she is being called a hero this morning after coming to the rescue of her unconscious mother. not only did this little girl call for help, she also took charge of her baby brother

during this medical emergency. 5-year-old olivia not only figured out how to work her mother's cell phone which was brand new, she also went outside to get the address fron relayed all the information to the dispatcher. >> are you with your mom? >> yeah. >> okay. is she awake at all? >> no. she's laying on the ground. >> the 5-year-old trusted us and she did an absolutely outstanding job of giving us all the information we needed to help her mom in a timely matter. >> medics say there is no telling what might have happened had it not been for olivia's quick-thinking actions. that little girl received a new puppy, you see him right there, as a reward for her heroic efforts. it never feels like enough leg room on a flight, that's for sure, no matter what your height, but get ready for an uncomfortable ride. one airline now making their seats smaller. so how small will it get and will you notice a difference? they're known for their

thanks for joining us this morning. you already feel pretty cramped when you're flying coach, but get ready for an even tighter squeeze. united airlines has announced plans to install what they're calling slimmer seats for their passengers. this reporter shows us the space that we're losing. >>reporter: flying coach is rarely comfortable. >> it's uncomfortable. and i was sitting up on row 10 and they still were small, so i can't imagine them getting any smaller. >>reporter: for coach passengers on united airlines, it's going to get even more cramped. the airline says it's going to retrofit 152 of its planes with slimline seats, reducing the seat size from 18 inches to 17 inches. but most customers say it is

just too tight a fit. >> that's not going to work at all. >>reporter: why is that? >> it's already too tight. i mean, you can't move, you have backaches, you already have no leg room, so i can't imagine it smaller. >>reporter: the change will allow for six extra seats in the cabin. united says its passengers shouldn't notice a change, especially since leg room won't be affected. the airline also plans to equip its entire fleet with wi-fi capabilities by 2015, but paul sonnier says that's no consullation. >> i don't use my laptop anyway because it's almost impossible to do. >> you have to be comfortable, doesn't make any difference if you can have wi-fi. >>reporter: many passengers realize space on an aircraft is becoming a rare commodity. >> no, not surprised at all. it's something i think we've all had to deal with over the years. >>reporter: and these latest changes will be made sometime next year. >> other major airlines have also announced plans to install

those slimmer seats to fit more passengers on board, so you can expect some changes. mcdonald's best known for their hamburgers, of course, however, the fast food chain right now set to open its first purely vegetarian restaurant. this is according to the financial times. they're going to be located near two of india's most acclaimed religious sites. cows are considered sacred in that country, so the newspaper reports that the vegetarian reports they'll make the veggie mcpaty, the spicy and a blend of traditional indian cheese. we'll have to see if that's something that will pop up here. sometimes video is so wild that we absolutely have to pass it along to you. so just ahead, we're going to show you a moose on the loose. one guy says this went from fascinating to be pretty frightening. we'll share the story with you when we come back.
